Project Profiles

Links are to a list in the Projects & Operations website of all World Bank projects approved, dropped, or in the pipeline for a given country. Each project links to a profile that includes description, financial details, and lists of reports, archival records, and photos, when available. This can be helpful to study the evolution of the Bank's work in the country over time, and to identify notable projects that represent important shifts or moments in the country's history. Early Country Economic Reports

Reports have been selected from the Documents & Reports database of publicly available World Bank Group authored reports and publications dating to the opening of the Bank in 1946. Country economic reports selected here are, in many cases, some of the earliest economic studies ever published on Bank member countries. Reports discussing the whole economy of a country, rather than individual sectors, are prioritized in this list.

Country Assistance Strategies

Reports have been selected from the Documents & Reports database of publicly available World Bank Group authored reports and publications dating to the opening of the Bank in 1946. Introduced in 1990 and replaced by the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) in 2014, the Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) is an overview of each borrowing country's current economic situation and contains a discussion of its development challenges, prospects, and project-planning. CASs were often initially published as part of project documents but later were published as stand-alone documents.

Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) Country Reports

Reports have been selected from the Documents & Reports database of publicly available World Bank Group (WBG) authored reports and publications dating to the opening of the Bank in 1946. Includes reports authored by the WBG's Independent Evaluation Group (IEG, formerly the Operations Evaluation Department [OED]). Country Program Evaluations (CPEs, formerly Country Assistant Evaluations [CAEs]) assess the development effectiveness of WBG support to a country. Completion and Learning Review Validations (CLRV, formerly Country Assistance Strategy Completion and Learning Review [CASCR] and Completion and Learning Review Review [CLRR]) validate WBG country teams' Completion and Learning Reviews (CLRs), which are self-evaluations of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) program's performance and the WBG's performance in implementing the CPF.

Press Releases

Links are to search results for a given country in the Documents & Reports database, the World Bank Group's (WBG) publicly available collection of reports and publications dating to the opening of the Bank in 1946. Press releases include the WBG's public communications regarding a variety of activities, including project approvals, report publications, country membership announcements, and more. Digitization and cataloging of press releases are ongoing, and press releases are added to the website regularly. In instances where the website does not contain press releases for a given country, check back for future additions, or contact the Archives by email at archives@worldbank.org.

Staff Newsletters

Resources have been selected from the World Bank Group's Documents & Reports website. The World Bank produced a staff newsletter beginning in 1947. The publication has changed its name twice: from International Bank Notes to Bank Notes in 1971, and then to Bank's World in 1982. The newsletter moved online in 2000 and physical publication ceased. In addition to offering news relating to Bank Group operations and country development, the newsletters were intended to foster a sense of community among staff by highlighting social events, marriages and births, arrival of new staff, recreational events, favorite cooking recipes submitted by staff, and features on different aspects of staff's home country and culture.
